Artist Statement Although Ashlee did not start choir until high school, she has been involved in theater ever since she could read a script. She was very active in theater in elementary and middle school, and only fell in love with it more when she came to Monomoy in 9th grade. Her favorite and most notable performances that she was in at the high school were All Shook Up (Sylvia) and Newsies (Jo Jo/ Hannah). Ashlee joined 8-12 chorus in 9th grade and auditioned for her first All-cape Music Festival choir and got in every year of high school. After seeing an unforgettable performance at the pep rally her freshman year, she auditioned for select choir and got in her sophomore year. That year she auditioned for the Southeast District Music Festival and got in her sophomore, junior, and senior year. Joining the select choir was fundamentally one of the best choices she made in high school, as she was able to make so many lasting friendships, build so many life essential skills, and ultimately join a family like no other. Ashlee is attending the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Honors College, with a major in Computer Science. She plans to become a software engineer and work for a tech company like Google or Microsoft. She does still plan on continuing to sing in college ;) She’d like to thank all of her friends and family for their support, and getting her to where she is today. She’d also like to thank Ms. Richard and Ms. Donovan for the past four years that were filled with laughs, tears, and growth. The Arts Department became her second home, and she befriended amazing people, and connected with them through theater. She is so grateful to have been a part of the Monomoy theater family, and we can’t wait to see what she does next!
"The reason why I chose music and the performing arts in high school is because music is an addiction, and I would not be the same person I am if I did not choose to do music in high school. I’ve learned very importantly skills like respect and confidence that have helped me in different areas of my life. Select choir has brought out the leadership in me. Take a challenging course, it has forced me to strive harder for my goals, and take a rejection as another reason to try again!" - Ashlee S |
